Nonfiction November - New to my TBR

Seven New Nonfiction Books for my TBR

After Thanksgiving, I feel like November is over – but it’s not!  Which means there is still one more week of Nonfiction November.

I’ve learned about so many new books and discovered lots of great new blogs this month!  I really appreciate everyone that put this event together.

I’ve had trouble compiling my list for this week.  The prompt is:
It’s been a month full of amazing nonfiction books! Which ones have made it onto your TBR? Be sure to link back to the original blogger who posted about that book!

While I don’t normally read very much nonfiction, I am trying to broaden my horizons.  Here are seven books that caught my eye this month

1.   TheSisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family by Mary Lovell

From: Books are my Favourite and Best

I recently read The House at Riverton (review here).  In the Author's Note at the back of the book, Kate Morton discusses books she read to prepare her for writing about this time period.  Several of those books were about the Mitford girls.  So, this book jumped out at me as kind of a companion to The House at Riverton.

2.   HuntingEichmann: How a Band of Survivors and a Young Spy Agency Chased Down theWorld’s Most Notorious Nazi by Neal Bascomb

From: Maphead

After reading so many books about WWII, I am beginning to be interested in what happened afterwards.  The devastation and chaos required a lot of cleaning up during the years of uncertain peace.

3.    ForgottenVoices of the Great War by Max Arthur

From: Booker Talk

And this discovery of what happened after WWII bleeds into my newfound interest in WWI.  People talk so much about the second World War, but I find that people know relatively little about the first.  (Booker Talk had it paired with the fiction Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks which I am also eager to check out!)

4.    and 5.
Elizabeth of York by Alison Weir
The Plantagenets by Dan Jones

From: She Reads Novels

Another time period that I find myself reading over and over is the Plantagenets and the War of the Roses.  I have had Alison Weir's biography of Elizabeth of York on my bookshelf for a while, but haven’t picked it up.  After She Reads Novels  mentioned it in her reads like fiction post, I am  inspired to actually give it a chance!  However, she seems to think The Plantagenets by Dan Jones might actually be better.  I’ll just have to check that one out, too.

6.    Educated by Tara Westover

From: Sarah’s Bookshelves

As a former teacher, I am interested in people’s different experiences in education.  Educated shows one family's quite unique ideas about education, and how one daughter went about defying her upbringing to change that.

7.    1491:New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus by Charles C. Mann

I came across a blog post about 1491 this month, but I absolutely cannot find it again!  Let me know if you know the blog, and I’ll link to them!  It stuck with me, though, and I have been thinking about grabbing this book about America before the Europeans came. PBS had series recently called Native America, and it has peeked my interest in this time period.  It is important to know about the people and culture that came before America as it is now.

We’ll see how long it takes me to get through this nonfiction TBR list!  Be sure to jump over to Doing Dewey to see the rest of the Nonfiction November posts for this week!

Happy Reading!

Hannah
